Obama gave a speech today on the facts about climate change and what he planned to do about it. To make a long story short if 98% of doctors tell you that you have cancer chances are you will go for treatment. Well thats the way it is with scientist and climate change and it looked today as if Obama decided to bring up the topic on an entirely new level. Owning a company that educates guest on our environment we are thrilled with the news and the speech he gave today.
Living in Costa Rica one of the first things that came to mind is how will this affect Costa Rica. Most US political decisions ultimately trickle down and have some sort of affect on Costa Rica.
The real reason we enjoyed the speech today was because this was monumental not just on a US scale but on a global level and it needs to be looked at in that way. The ones celebrating today are the colourful poisonous dart frogs, the high land bird species, and the coral reefs. All these species are being drastically affected by global warming. They also might hold the cure for cancer and AIDS, and along with so many other species that make up this vibrant country of Costa Rica. I will keep one of my windows cracked as I sleep in the jungle and listen for the “fiesta” in which all these species celebrate the international aid to their eco-system which ultimately is aid to our very own species.
So the affect on Costa Rica might not result in the production of more clean energy or any major financial benefit. The real affect is the celebration of keeping our planet at a level that can sustain all life on this planet. Its essential for us to care for all life because without them survival would get pretty tricky for us.
Not bad news for a business that operates Costa Rica family vacations with the joy of showing people animals that are getting swamped by global warming which you can literally see working in the field over the last ten years. It’s time we start being a member of this planet. If the rest of the living organisms could speak, they would say “great to have you here, why don’t you stay for awhile”.
If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos. – E.O. Wilson
