La Fortuna Waterfall Maleku Horseback

This is a unique horseback ride in the area of La Fortuna around the Arenal Volcano. As with most horseback rides in the area, you will be promised excellent views of the Arenal Volcano but with this tour you can also enjoy the enchanting La Fortuna Falls which is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful waterfalls accessible to tourist. Your first stop will be the Falls after about a 45 minute ride. You will have to hike a bit and cross a river to get a good view of the Falls. The river crossing is fairly easy and a chance to see the Falls up-close is well worth it.

After you spend some time at the Falls it will be back on the horses as you continue the ride through more beautiful forest and pastures. You will arrive to a indigenous hut where you will learn about the rescue of the nearby indigenous culture of the Maleku tribe from the northern plains of Costa Rica.

This is a great half day tour in the area and the horses are very relaxed, slow, and great for kids. It also makes for a good option because you are getting off the horse every so often to break up the ride. You are actually using the horse to get to places instead of just riding in a circle.

Reasons to Go:

  • 3 in 1 really! Horseback, Indigenous, & Waterfall
  • Slow tranquil horses

Reasons NOT to Go:

  • Looking for more adventurous ride. These horses are slow.
